New Delhi: The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) under the National Solar Mission. The initiative aims to strengthen DRDO’s commitment to energy neutrality and Net Zero Carbon goals while promoting green energy adoption across its laboratories.
Driving Renewable Energy Adoption
Under the agreement, a total of 250MW solar power generation is targeted to transform DRDO into a green and sustainable organisation. The project aligns with the Government of India’s vision to integrate renewable energy solutions across public sector institutions and support environmentally responsible operations.
As part of the collaboration, a land use agreement has been executed for 402 acres at the Aeronautical Test Range, Chitradurga, Karnataka. SECI will develop a 100MW solar power facility at this site, providing renewable energy to DRDO laboratories nationwide at concessional rates.
Promoting Sustainability and Net Zero Goals
This partnership not only contributes to DRDO’s green energy transition but also reinforces the National Solar Mission’s broader objectives of carbon neutrality and sustainable development. By leveraging SECI’s expertise in large-scale solar power deployment, DRDO aims to reduce its carbon footprint and ensure reliable, cost-effective energy for its critical R&D operations.
The collaboration highlights the strategic integration of defence and renewable energy sectors, paving the way for more environmentally conscious initiatives within government organisations.
