Sanctoria: Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited under the Ministry of Coal, has intensified its organisation-wide initiative to raise awareness and implement the newly notified Labour Codes issued by the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India. The campaign spans ECL’s operational regions across West Bengal and Jharkhand, covering mines, workshops, project offices, and residential colonies.
Multilingual Outreach to Employees and Workers
As part of the initiative, ECL distributed multilingual pamphlets detailing key provisions and benefits of the Labour Codes. The information was targeted at employees, contract workers, and allied personnel to ensure comprehensive understanding of workplace rights and entitlements.
The campaign emphasized the support of all Functioning Trade Unions, enhancing credibility and confidence in the adoption of the Labour Codes among the workforce.
Focus on Workplace Safety, Social Security and Worker Welfare
The awareness material highlighted critical aspects such as:
- Workplace safety and hygiene
- Social security benefits
- Mandatory appointment letters
- Wage transparency
- Enhanced worker welfare initiatives
In addition to printed material, ECL conducted toolbox talks, departmental briefings, awareness sessions, and interactive engagements at multiple production and administrative sites. These efforts aimed to ensure clarity on procedural changes, rights, and entitlements under the new Labour Codes.
Special Attention to Contractors and Outsourced Workers
ECL placed particular emphasis on contract and outsourced workers, who form a significant part of the operational workforce. HR and supervisory teams were mobilized to provide direct communication support, resolve queries, and ensure accurate information reached grassroots-level employees, reinforcing transparency and inclusivity.
