Patna: Senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Dr. S Siddharth, currently serving as Additional Chief Secretary in the Bihar Education Department, has applied for voluntary retirement (VRS) from his post. The application, submitted on July 17, is currently pending approval from Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
While the officer has denied reports of his resignation, speculation is rife that Dr. Siddharth may be preparing to enter politics, given his long-standing administrative career and recent public visibility.
A Distinguished Bureaucrat with a Multi-Faceted Legacy
A 1991-batch IAS officer of the Bihar cadre, Dr. S Siddharth hails from Tamil Nadu and holds an illustrious academic background. He earned a PhD in Information Technology from IIT Delhi, a B.Tech in Computer Science from the same institute (1987), and an MBA from IIM Ahmedabad (1989).
Over his 29-year career, he has served in various important administrative positions, including:
- District Magistrate of Muzaffarpur, Aurangabad, Bhojpur, and Lohardaga
- Director, Ministry of Heavy Industries, Government of India
- Principal Secretary to Bihar CM Nitish Kumar
- Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Finance
Currently, he plays a pivotal role in steering Bihar’s education policy as Additional Chief Secretary, Education Department.
