New Delhi: Engineers India Limited (EIL) and Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to advance India’s nuclear energy capabilities through the Bharat Small Modular Reactor (BSMR) project. Signed on 12 August 2025 in Mumbai, the agreement focuses on providing engineering services for the conceptual design and development of this nationally important project.
Collaboration for National Energy Goals

The MoU was signed by Director (Commercial), EIL, and Director (Technical), NPCIL, in the presence of Vartika Shukla, CMD EIL, and B.C. Pathak, CMD NPCIL. Senior management from both organisations also attended the signing ceremony.
This collaboration aligns with the Government of India’s vision to accelerate nuclear power adoption, supporting clean, green, and reliable energy for the nation. The BSMR initiative is a crucial step under the Nuclear Energy Mission for Vikasit Bharat, with the target of achieving 100 GW nuclear power capacity by 2047.

Driving Clean Energy Security

By combining EIL’s engineering expertise and NPCIL’s operational experience, the BSMR project aims to strengthen India’s energy security. The initiative is expected to contribute significantly to reducing carbon emissions and ensuring sustainable energy growth.
