Lucknow: Former IPS officer Amitabh Thakur (1992 batch) and his wife, activist Nutan Thakur, have been booked in a forgery and cheating case linked to a decades-old industrial plot allotment in Deoria. The case alleges misuse of official position and fabrication of documents to claim ownership of the land.
Allegations of Forgery and Misuse of Position
The complaint, filed by Alok Kumar Srivastava, accuses the couple of using forged sale deeds, transfer papers, and bank challans to illegally secure an industrial plot. The alleged forgeSry dates back to 1999, when Nutan Thakur reportedly submitted fabricated documents, including an affidavit and identity proof, to the District Industries Centre, Deoria.
According to the complaint, Amitabh Thakur, then Superintendent of Police in Deoria, abused his position to influence the allotment process and protect the irregularity. The complainant has demanded cancellation of the sale and transfer deeds, confiscation of the plot, and action under charges of criminal conspiracy, forgery, and cheating.
Couple Dismisses Case as Political Vendetta
In response, the couple issued a joint statement rejecting the allegations. They described the FIR as “politically motivated” and linked it to their activism against senior government officials. They claimed the civil dispute, nearly 25 years old, had been “deliberately converted into a criminal case” to target them.
“We are fully confident that we will soon prove our innocence in this matter with facts,” their statement read.
Investigation Underway
An FIR has been lodged at Talkatora police station in Lucknow under IPC sections 420, 467, 468, 471, and 120B. Authorities have also been urged to involve agencies like CBCID, SIT, or CBI for a wider probe, given the alleged misuse of police powers at the time. The investigation into the matter is ongoing.
