Ex-IPS Officer Shivdeep Lande Launches ‘Hind Sena’ Ahead of Bihar Elections

Mr. Lande resigned from the Indian Police Service (IPS) in September last year, leading to speculation about his political ambitions
Indian Masterminds Stories

Former IPS officer Mr. Shivdeep Lande (2006-batch) has announced the formation of a new political party, ‘Hind Sena’, marking his official entry into politics. He stated that the party would be based on the principles of nationalism, service, and dedication, aiming to become the voice of the people of Bihar.

The announcement comes just before the 2025 Bihar Assembly Elections, stirring discussions in the state’s political circles. Mr. Lande resigned from the Indian Police Service (IPS) in September last year, leading to speculation about his political ambitions.

His move is being compared to that of Mr. K. Annamalai (2011-batch Retd. IPS officer of the Karnataka cadre), the Tamil Nadu BJP president, who left the Karnataka cadre IPS to join the BJP. However, the key difference is that Mr. Lande has formed his own party, while Mr. Annamalai aligned himself with an existing political entity. Both, however, are seen promoting Hindutva politics.

Ex-IPS Mr. Lande has always been known for his dedication and impactful service, particularly in Bihar. Born on August 29, 1976, in Akola, Maharashtra, he pursued a degree in electrical engineering from Shri Sant Gajanan Maharaj College of Engineering, Shegaon, before joining the IPS in 2006.

Distinguished Police Career

Throughout his career, Mr. Lande held several key positions:

  • Superintendent of Police (SP) in districts such as Araria, Purnia, Munger, and notably Patna (Central Region).
  • Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Tirhut Division (Muzaffarpur) and Kosi Division.
  • Inspector General (IG) of Purnia, Bihar.

His tenure as SP of Patna was particularly notable for his proactive approach to crime, earning him nicknames like ‘Dabangg’, ‘Singham’, and ‘The Supercop’. He was recognized for taking stringent actions against criminals, including those involved in counterfeit cosmetics and medicine rackets, and was especially commended for addressing issues like eve-teasing, ensuring the safety of women in the region.

In 2017, during an inter-state deputation to Maharashtra, Mr. Lande served as the Additional Commissioner of Police in the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS). He played a significant role in the investigation of the Antilia bomb scare case in Mumbai.
