Exemplary Service Rewarded: President’s Medals Honor South India’s Officers on Republic Day

On Republic Day 2024, a total of 1132 individuals from Police, Fire Service, Home Guard & Civil Defence, and Correctional Service have been honored with Gallantry and Service Medals.

The President’s Medal for Distinguished Service (PSM) is bestowed for an exceptional record of service, while the Medal for Meritorious Service (MSM) is granted for commendable service marked by resourcefulness and unwavering devotion to duty. On the other hand, the President’s Medal for Gallantry (PMG) and Medal for Gallantry (GM) are awarded for Rare Conspicuous Acts of Gallantry and Conspicuous Acts of Gallantry, respectively. These recognitions are given for acts involving the risk of life while saving lives, protecting property, preventing crime, or apprehending criminals, with a careful assessment of the challenges faced by the officers.

In a moment of pride for the bureaucracy, police department, and various Paramilitary Forces, over 100 IPS and state police services officers have been conferred with the President’s Medal in acknowledgment of their exemplary services.

Officers from South India have been honored with the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service during the Republic Day 2024 Ceremony. The names of the distinguished officers are listed below-

Soumendu Mukherjee ADGP, Karnataka and Sudhir Mahadev Hegde, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Karnataka received the award.
