Gorakhpur/Lucknow: The Gorakhpur police are on a high-alert search for a fake IAS officer, Gaurav Kumar, who allegedly defrauded people by promising government jobs and contracts. The investigation intensified after his location was traced to Lucknow, prompting a specialized police team to be dispatched to the city for his arrest.
Fake IAS Officer’s Modus Operandi
Gaurav Kumar, who claims to be a 2022-batch IAS officer, reportedly cheated several individuals by offering high-ranking government jobs and lucrative contracts. His fraudulent activities span several months, during which he allegedly extorted crores of rupees from unsuspecting victims. According to police sources, he has deceived numerous people into giving him large sums of money under the pretext of providing employment and contracts.
Sexual Harassment Allegations Surface
Apart from financial fraud, Gaurav Kumar is also accused of sexual exploitation. A case has been registered in Patna where he allegedly lured a young woman under the pretext of marriage. Recently, another woman approached the Gorakhpur police office accusing Gaurav of sexual harassment. She claimed that he contacted her from an unknown number on Sunday. When police traced the number, they found that he was actively operating from Lucknow.
Cyber Cell and Crime Branch Trace Location to Lucknow
The Gorakhpur police, with assistance from the Cyber Cell and Crime Branch, tracked Gaurav Kumar’s activities to Lucknow. Based on intelligence provided by businessman Mukund Madhav from Mokama—who was recently caught with Rs 99.09 lakh at the railway station—the authorities intensified their hunt for Gaurav. A special team has already been sent to Lucknow to apprehend him.
Police Take Immediate Action
Authorities have confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and that the Lucknow police are coordinating with Gorakhpur officers for a swift arrest. Senior officials stated that the operation aims to prevent further fraud and protect potential victims from falling prey to Gaurav Kumar’s schemes.

Police have urged the public to be cautious of individuals claiming high-ranking government posts and promising jobs or contracts in exchange for money. Anyone with information about Gaurav Kumar’s whereabouts is requested to report immediately to the nearest police station.
