Imphal: In a significant administrative development, former 1993 batch Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer SS Chhabra has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Manipur Public Service Commission (MPSC). The appointment was confirmed through a government order issued on Tuesday.
The order, signed by Chief Secretary PK Singh, states that Chhabra’s appointment is made under Article 316 of the Constitution of India, with the approval of the Governor of Manipur. He will serve a six-year term from the date he assumes office or until he reaches the age of 62, whichever comes earlier.
The appointment has been made by the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (Personnel Division). As per the order, Chhabra’s pay, allowances, and service conditions will be governed by the Manipur Public Service Commission Regulations, 1972, as amended from time to time.
This appointment comes as part of the state’s efforts to ensure leadership continuity and administrative efficiency in the functioning of the MPSC.
