The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has recently undertaken a fresh reshuffle of responsibilities amongst its members placing the investigation wing under the direct supervision of the Chairman. The CBDT is an apex body that supervises the income-tax department’s work in the country and is headed by a chairman and can have six members in the rank of special secretary. The fresh reshuffle was necessitated due to a vacancy of two members on the board.
Senior IRS Officer Ravi Agrawal (1988 batch), the incumbent CBDT Chairman was placed in overall control of ‘Coordination and Supervision’ of the board’s work including Investigation. Earlier there used to be an independent post of Member (Investigation), but the post was abolished last year and the Chairman was authorised with the “supervision of the work of investigation.”
IRS Harinder Bir Singh Gill (1987 batch) will be the Member (Taxpayer Services and Revenue). Officer Gill will also be holding the additional charge of Member (Systems and Faceless Services).
IRS Sanjay Kumar (1988 batch) will be in the charge of Member (Audit and Judicial), besides the additional charge of Member (Income Tax).
IRS Prabodh Seth (1989 batch) will be the Member (Administration) and IRS Ramesh Narain Parbat (1989 batch) will be the Member (Legislation).
