Indian Masterminds Stories

Bengaluru: NBCC (India) Limited, a Navratna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, has been entrusted with a strategic infrastructure development project to expand the southern campus of the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT) at the Energy Institute, Bengaluru. The project is valued at approximately ₹44 crore, underscoring NBCC’s pivotal role in shaping India’s higher education infrastructure focused on the energy sector.

Campus Location and Scope
The upcoming campus is located at Kambalipura in Hosakote Taluk, spread across 125 hectares, strategically situated near Kempegowda International Airport and Bengaluru’s urban corridor. The development will cover over 13,500 sq. metres of built-up space and include:

  • Modern academic blocks
  • Hostels and faculty residences
  • Dignitary guest houses
  • Dining and recreational infrastructure

The campus is envisioned as a future-ready, digitally integrated, and environmentally sustainable centre of academic excellence.

NBCC’s Project Leadership and Lifecycle Oversight
NBCC will act as the Project Management Consultant (PMC) and lead the initiative across the entire project lifecycle – from concept design and structural planning to vendor management, regulatory clearance, and final commissioning.

The company will ensure timely, cost-effective, and high-quality execution while upholding rigorous health, safety, and environmental standards. This project aligns with NBCC’s broader portfolio of institutional infrastructure developments that promote innovation and sustainability.

A Benchmark in Green Campus Design
What makes the RGIPT campus unique is its strong climate-conscious and sustainable design approach.

Key features include-

  • Passive design strategies like recessed fenestration and central courtyards
  • Natural ventilation and daylight optimization
  • Thermal insulation and energy-efficient materials
  • Solar energy integration
  • Rainwater harvesting systems
  • Expansive green belts and biodiversity-friendly landscaping

This commitment to sustainability will make the campus a model for net-zero educational infrastructure in the country.

Strengthening India’s Energy Education and Research Ecosystem
The expanded campus will significantly enhance RGIPT’s educational and research capabilities in energy and petroleum technologies. As India scales up its clean energy transition, this world-class infrastructure will position RGIPT as a global hub for talent, research, and innovation in energy studies and applied science.

NBCC’s involvement will not only deliver cutting-edge infrastructure but also ensure that national priorities in clean energy and sustainability are realized on the ground.

NBCC’s Growing Footprint in Sustainable Infrastructure
This project further reinforces NBCC’s leadership in delivering future-ready public infrastructure. With a growing focus on sustainable development, smart campuses, and digital integration, NBCC continues to transform India’s institutional landscape in alignment with national development goals.
