New Delhi: GAIL (India) Limited, India’s flagship natural gas company, has appointed Mr. Rohit Mathur, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas (MoP&NG), as a Government Nominee Director on its Board. The appointment is effective from 9 March 2026 and is set for a tenure of three years or until further orders, whichever comes first.
Strengthening Strategic Governance in India’s Energy Sector
The appointment underscores the Ministry’s continued oversight and strategic guidance for public sector undertakings in the energy sector. Mr. Mathur’s presence on the board aims to enhance alignment with government policies in the oil and natural gas sector, ensuring robust governance for key initiatives such as:
- Natural gas pipeline expansion
- LNG imports
- Domestic gas marketing initiatives
GAIL has already initiated the necessary onboarding formalities, in compliance with SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015, to complete the induction process smoothly.
Board Succession and Compliance
This board change follows a directive from the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas under Letter No. CA-31022/1/2021-CA-PNG (37493). Mr. Mathur, holding DIN: 08216731, joins the company as a Government Nominee Director, contributing his expertise and strategic oversight to reinforce GAIL’s leadership in the sector.
