New Delhi: IRS officer Amrutha Varshini Palla (IRS-IT: 2014) has been appointed as Deputy Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs (DEA) on central deputation. The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) issued the order on September 25, 2025.
Ms. Palla’s tenure will span four years, up to March 4, 2028, combining her ex-cadre and Central Staffing Scheme (CSS) deputation period. She was recommended for central deputation by the Department of Revenue and will assume charge of her new role shortly.

R. Rajagopal Takes Charge as Member (Traction & Rolling Stock) of Railway Board
In another significant appointment, IRMS officer R. Rajagopal has been appointed as Member (Traction & Rolling Stock) on the Railway Board. This apex scale position, approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), plays a crucial role in advancing Indian Railways’ electrification and modernization drive.
The appointment comes at a pivotal moment as Indian Railways nears its goal of 100% broad-gauge electrification, with 97.05% completion recorded as of February 1, 2025, and full electrification targeted by December 2025. Rajagopal’s leadership is expected to accelerate the upgrade of rolling stock and traction systems.
Rohit Kumar Singh Joins ASCI Board of Governors
Rohit Kumar Singh, former Secretary of the Department of Consumer Affairs and a 1989 batch IAS officer of the Rajasthan cadre, has been appointed to the Board of Governors of the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) in the Eminent Persons Category.
Singh’s extensive experience in consumer affairs and governance is expected to enhance the council’s efforts in regulating advertising standards and protecting consumer interests across the country.
