Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Mr. Vishnu Deo Sai on Thursday announced a major step to strengthen healthcare infrastructure in the state. The Department of Medical Education signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Telangana-based Continental Hospital for the construction of a state-of-the-art super speciality hospital in Bastar. This project will be implemented under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY), marking a historic milestone in the state’s healthcare journey.
High-Level Participation in MoU Signing
The MoU signing ceremony, held at Mahanadi Bhawan in Raipur, was attended by Health Minister Mr. Shyam Bihari Jaiswal, Forest and Transport Minister Mr. Kedar Kashyap, and several senior bureaucrats. Chief Secretary Mr. Amitabh Jain (1990-batch IAS officer), Additional Chief Secretary Mr. Manoj Kumar Pingua (1994-batch IAS officer), Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Mr. Subodh Kumar Singh (1997-batch IAS officer), Secretary Mr. Rahul Bhagat (2005-batch IAS officer), Health Secretary Mr. Amit Kataria (2004-batch IAS officer), and Health Commissioner Ms. Priyanka Shukla (2009-batch IAS officer) were among the dignitaries present. Senior representatives from NMDC and Continental Hospital also participated in the event.
Transforming Healthcare Access in Bastar
The establishment of a super speciality hospital in Bastar is expected to transform healthcare delivery in the tribal-dominated region. Patients will have access to advanced medical treatments within the state itself, reducing the need to travel long distances to metropolitan cities for specialized care. The initiative is part of the government’s broader vision to ensure equitable healthcare access for all sections of society, particularly in remote and underserved areas.
Boost to Medical Education and Training
Alongside patient care, the project will also boost medical education and training in the state. With the involvement of Continental Hospital, known for its expertise in advanced healthcare, doctors and medical students in Chhattisgarh will gain exposure to modern treatment techniques, research opportunities, and skill development.
Developmental Significance
This MoU highlights the strong coordination between the Chhattisgarh government, senior IAS officers, and private healthcare institutions to improve public welfare. By leveraging the PMSSY framework, the state is setting an example of cooperative federalism and public-private partnership in healthcare. It reflects a developmental approach aimed at strengthening healthcare systems at the grassroots while simultaneously enhancing medical education standards.
