The Calcutta High court has ordered a probe into 4 recent rape cases in Bengal under the supervision of IPS officer Damyanti Sen, who also solved the park street rape case in the year 2012. Hearing a batch of petitions filed by these rape victims, the High court directed her to oversee the investigation.
“Past experience shows that Sen is capable of conducting an impartial inquiry,” said a division bench of Chief Justice Prakash Srivastava and Justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj, referring to her investigation into the Park Street gangrape case, a decade ago.
The four rape cases have been reported over the last one month from the Deganga and Matia in North 24 Parganas, English Bazar in Malda, and Bansdroni in South Kolkata.
