The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved leasing out three airports of the Airport Authority of India (AAI) viz Jaipur, Guwahati and Thiruvananthapuram through Public Private Partnership (PPP).
The lease has been given out to M/s Adani Enterprises Ltd, who is declared as the successful bidder in a Global Competitive Bidding conducted by the Airports Authority of India, for a period of fifty years. This has been done to ensure operation, management and development of the airports.
This project will bring efficiency, service delivery, expertise, enterprise and professionalism apart from harnessing the needed investments in the public sector.
This comes as a developmental venture after Delhi and Mumbai airports were also leased out to private companies a decade ago. These PPP experiments have helped to build world class airports. It has also helped the AAI to enhance it’s revenues and develop Air Navigation Infrastructure. It also helped the authority to upgrade air transport systems in Tier 2 and 3 cities. The PPP airports in India are consistently ranked among the top 5 in their respective categories by the Airports Council International (ACI) in terms of Airport Service Quality (ASQ).
