On National Sports Day, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav addressed a virtual event from New Delhi, emphasizing the growing significance of sports activities under the leadership of Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi. The event was held at the Major Dhyan Chand Hockey Stadium in Bhopal as part of the Fit India Campaign, celebrating the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand.
Dr. Yadav’s Vision for India’s Sporting Future
During his address, Dr. Yadav acknowledged the outstanding performance of players from Madhya Pradesh and other states in global sports events like the Olympics and Asiad. He highlighted that with upcoming global events such as the Commonwealth Games in India and the hope of hosting the Olympics in the future, the country’s sports sector is poised for rapid growth. Dr. Yadav added that if India were to host the Olympics, it would provide new energy and direction to the sports infrastructure and development initiatives in Madhya Pradesh.
Paying Tribute to Major Dhyan Chand
Dr. Yadav also paid a heartfelt tribute to Major Dhyan Chand, often hailed as the “Hockey Magician,” on the occasion of his 120th birth anniversary. Reflecting on a historic moment from the 1936 Olympics, Dr. Yadav shared how Major Dhyan Chand scored three goals in quick succession in a crucial match, leading India to victory. The German dictator Adolf Hitler offered him a higher military rank, which Major Dhyan Chand graciously declined, asserting his identity as an Indian first. This inspirational story continues to motivate players across the country to put India’s pride above all else.

Cooperatives, Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Mr. Vishwas Kailash Sarang emphasized the importance of fitness as part of daily life, echoing Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi’s slogan, “Fit India will make Hit India.” He encouraged every age group to take up sports and fitness, underscoring that players themselves should inspire at least ten people to join the fitness movement in the next three months. The goal, he said, was to create a nationwide culture of health and fitness.
