Recently, the Ministry of Women and Child Development gave the nod to a massive project for ‘Residential Accommodation’ for working women and girls pursuing Higher Education at Delhi University under the Nirbhaya Fund, built at a staggering cost of Rs. 272 crores, under the Union Government’s pristine vision of ‘Viksit Bharat @2047.’
The resource pool of Rs. 272 crores is expected to be utilised for the construction of accommodation tailored for female students and working women at Delhi University. This fund also includes the expenses for setting up CCTV surveillance systems across the accommodation premises, expected to cost Rs. 72 crores.
This initiative shall be executed via two phases, each comprising 500 well-appointed accommodations. Ultimately, the facility will encompass 1000 beds, supported by a wide range of enhanced security features and gender-sensitive amenities.
Such far-sighted endeavours are rudimentary to prove the government’s unwavering resolve towards ensuring women’s empowerment and establishing a commitment to create an environment where women and girls can thrive.
