Patna: Bihar’s political landscape has intensified ahead of NDA’s formation of the next government, with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar set to convene a crucial cabinet meeting on Monday (17th November). The sole agenda of the meeting is to recommend the dissolution of the current government and pave the way for a fresh swearing-in.
If all goes as planned, Nitish Kumar may take oath as Chief Minister for a record 10th time on 19 November, making him one of India’s longest-serving chief ministers. The final date, however, will depend on the availability of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, sources said.
Cabinet to Meet First, Resignation to Follow
According to official sources, after Monday’s cabinet meeting concludes, Nitish Kumar will directly proceed to Raj Bhavan to submit his resignation to the Governor.
The JD(U) has instructed all its MLAs to remain in Patna from Monday onwards. The NDA Legislature Party meeting will follow soon after the resignation process.
JDU Legislature Party to Elect Nitish as Leader Again
Before the NDA meeting, the JD(U) Legislature Party will meet at the Chief Minister’s residence to formally elect Nitish Kumar as their leader.
This meeting is expected either Monday or Tuesday, after which the NDA Legislature Party will elect him as the alliance leader, clearing the way for government formation.
Swearing-In Likely on Wednesday
Sources indicate that Nitish Kumar may stake his claim to form the government before the Governor on Tuesday. If the timeline remains unchanged, the swearing-in ceremony may take place on Wednesday, likely at the historic Gandhi Maidan.
High-level discussions in Delhi between JDU and BJP leaders – including Sanjay Jha, Lallan Singh, Upendra Kushwaha, and Jitan Ram Manjhi – are shaping the final contours of the new government.
Nitish Holds Marathon Meetings with NDA Leaders
On Sunday, Nitish Kumar held a series of meetings with newly elected NDA MLAs and senior leaders. Union Minister Nityanand Rai and RLSP leader Upendra Kushwaha were among those who met the Chief Minister.
JDU’s state president Umesh Singh Kushwaha coordinated the meeting of all the party’s MLAs with Nitish Kumar, marking the completion of the JDU’s internal consultations. BJP and other NDA components also held rounds of discussions with the CM.
