Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi attended the 57th All-India Conference of Director Generals/ Inspector Generals of Police on the 21st and 22nd of January in New Delhi. He advised educating the cops on cutting-edge technologies and increasing their sensitivity. He emphasised the value of the National Data Governance Framework in facilitating seamless data interchange between agencies.

He added that while we should continue to use technical solutions like biometrics and other similar ones, we also need to enhance more established policing practices like foot patrols and other similar ones. He advocated eliminating outmoded criminal laws and establishing uniformity across state police agencies. To enhance prison administration, he offered prison changes. He also talked about scheduling frequent official visits to bolster border and coastline security.

In order to maximise capacities and share best practices, the prime minister emphasised closer coordination between state police and federal institutions. For teams to explore new difficulties and develop best practices, he advised repeating the DGsP/IGsP Conference format at the state and district levels.

In his speech, Union Home Minister Amit Shah emphasised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of turning India into a developed country by 2047 and having a $5 trillion GDP by 2025. He also outlined a strategy for overcoming obstacles over the next ten years while highlighting internal security accomplishments in J&K, the Northeast, and LWE. In addition to a specialised strategy to preserve digital public goods, he emphasised strengthening the police forces’ capacity and securing key infrastructure sectors.

The conference examined issues such as security difficulties along the land borders with Nepal and Myanmar, methods to track down foreigners who are overstaying their visas in India, and the targeting of Maoist strongholds on the first day. Over the next two days, top police leadership of the country would deliberate on emerging security challenges and opportunities along with experts, field functionaries and academia.

The Conference covered various aspects of policing and national security, including Counter Terrorism, Counter Insurgency and Cyber Security. The Union Home Minister, Ministers for State for Home, National Security Advisor, Union Home Secretary, DGsP/IGsP of States/UTs and Heads of the Central Police Organisations/Central Armed Police Forces were also present at the Conference. Around 600 more officers of various levels attended the Conference virtually from States/UTs.

The Conference was concluded after Prime Minister distributed Police Medals for Distinguished Services.
