fIn a landmark step towards women’s health and family empowerment, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mr. Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday launched the state-wide rollout of the “Swastha Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan” and the 8th National Nutrition Month, aligning with Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi’s vision of a healthier, self-reliant India. The campaign, launched via video conferencing by the Prime Minister from Dhar, Madhya Pradesh, will run from September 17 to October 2, 2025, with Nutrition Month extending until October 16.
At a grand state-level program held at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Scientific Convention Center in King George’s Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow, CM Yogi flagged off a series of health and nutrition initiatives targeting women, children, and families across 75 districts of the state.
Over 20,000 Health Camps Activated Across Uttar Pradesh
Mr. Yogi Adityanath inaugurated 20,324 health camps in all districts, equipped to offer free checkups for conditions like diabetes, hypertension, anemia, tuberculosis, oral and breast cancer, cervical cancer, and more. Additionally, 507 blood donation camps have been launched to encourage youth participation in health-related service.
The CM confirmed that these camps are integrated with Arogya Mandirs, community health centers, and medical colleges, ensuring the presence of qualified medical professionals. These efforts are focused not just on treatment but also awareness, prevention, and early intervention.
Empowering Anganwadi Workers: Smartphones and Honorarium Hike
CM Yogi made a significant announcement to empower Anganwadi workers by providing them smartphones and increasing their honorarium. These digital tools will enable better record-keeping, real-time health data, and delivery of services at the grassroots level.
He added that training and timely payments would be ensured, transforming Anganwadi workers into confident, self-reliant service providers. Uttar Pradesh has 1.89 lakh Anganwadi centers and over 10 lakh women’s self-help groups, playing a vital role in the campaign’s implementation.
Celebrating Motherhood: Baby Showers, Annaprashan, and Nutrition Kits
CM Yogi actively participated in symbolic ceremonies such as Annaprashan (first feeding) and baby showers for pregnant women. These activities were aimed at spreading awareness about prenatal care, early childhood nutrition, and overall maternal well-being.
He also distributed nutrition kits and maternity benefits under the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), reinforcing the government’s support for maternal health.
Clear Intentions, Clear Results: Health Progress in Uttar Pradesh
Highlighting the remarkable strides made in Uttar Pradesh’s health sector, Mr. Yogi shared that:
- 41 new medical colleges have been constructed in the last eight years.
- Infant mortality rate dropped from 45 to 37.
- Maternal mortality reduced to 141.
- Anemia, stunting, and underweight rates have significantly improved.
He noted that diseases like encephalitis, which claimed over 50,000 lives in four decades, have now been completely eradicated. The government is now working towards eliminating malaria, dengue, kala-azar, and TB through focused campaigns and public awareness.
Economic Empowerment Through Nutrition and THR Plants
Mr. Yogi emphasized that 60,000 women are currently earning Rs. 8,000 per month through Take Home Ration (THR) plants, and with the help of NAFED, their earnings will increase by marketing surplus production. This is expected to uplift one crore women economically and move Uttar Pradesh closer to the dream of self-reliant villages and families.
Honoring Health Heroes and Community Champions
The CM also honored Nishchay Mitras, blood donors, outstanding Anganwadi workers, and village heads for their contributions under the Sambhaav Abhiyan. He praised their role in raising awareness and strengthening community-driven health initiatives.
Senior leaders including Deputy CMs Mr. Keshav Prasad Maurya and Mr. Brajesh Pathak, Cabinet Minister Ms. Baby Rani Maurya, and other dignitaries were present at the event.
Toward a Healthier, Empowered Uttar Pradesh
The campaign will continue until Vijayadashami (October 2), aiming to make Uttar Pradesh a national leader in maternal health, child nutrition, and women empowerment. CM Yogi concluded, “Under the guidance of Prime Minister Modi, we are working with clear intentions and transparent policies. The results are evident, and Uttar Pradesh will become a model state in health and empowerment.”
