Bhopal: In a major environmental initiative, the Madhya Pradesh government is set to cover the Maa Narmada Parikrama Path shelters with lush greenery as part of the nationwide Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0 campaign. The plantation drive, which aims to conserve and promote water, environment, and biodiversity, will be conducted across 233 shelter sites in 16 districts.
A Green Mission Inspired by PM Modi, Led by CM Dr. Mohan Yadav
The ambitious afforestation drive is being implemented under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s national campaign for environmental preservation. The initiative is spearheaded by the Panchayat and Rural Development Department, with on-ground execution by the MNREGA Council.
1000 Acres to Be Transformed with 7.5 Lakh Plants
According to official details, the plantation drive will cover approximately 1000 acres of land, with over 7.50 lakh plants to be planted at a total estimated cost of more than ₹43 crore. The planting activity will begin on July 15 and continue until August 15, 2025, forming a part of a structured, mission-mode campaign.
Districts to Benefit from the Green Initiative
Plantation will be carried out in the shelter locations of the following 16 districts-
Anuppur, Dindori, Mandla, Jabalpur, Narsinghpur, Seoni, Barwani, Alirajpur, Dhar, Narmadapuram, Raisen, Sehore, Harda, Dewas, Khandwa, and Khargone.
Technology-Driven Implementation and Monitoring
To ensure scientific accuracy and transparency, SIPRI software will be used for selecting suitable shelter sites for plantation. The software will verify the presence of a permanent water source and other environmental parameters before allowing plantations.
In addition, drone and satellite imagery will be employed by the MNREGA Council to monitor the plantation work, verify plant coverage, and detect any discrepancies during the execution phase.
Category-Wise Plantation Approach
The plantation will be carried out in two main categories based on land availability-
- 136 locations with more than 2 acres of land will receive 2.15 lakh plants using the traditional method.
- 97 locations with 1–2 acres of land will receive 5.50 lakh plants using the Miyawaki method, known for dense and fast-growing urban forests.
Pre-Plantation Preparations in Full Swing
Before plantation begins, comprehensive ground preparation will be completed by July 14. This includes-
- Pit digging
- Wire fencing for plant protection
- Physical site verification
- Technical and administrative approvals
Wire fencing will be installed at each site to protect the young saplings from grazing and human interference.
