Kolkata: Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd. (GRSE), a leading defence Public Sector Undertaking, has signed a series of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with five strategic partners from the shipbuilding, port, and infrastructure sectors. These agreements mark a significant step towards enhancing India’s maritime capabilities and accelerating the nation’s ambition to become a global shipbuilding hub by 2047.
Historic Push for Shipbuilding Excellence
Cmde PR Hari, IN (Retd.), Chairman & Managing Director of GRSE, emphasized the importance of this collaboration in the broader context of the government’s vision. “We at GRSE are proud to be a part of this historic program launched by Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi to revitalize India’s shipbuilding sector and position India among the top five shipbuilding nations globally by 2047,” he stated.
This initiative aligns with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Maritime Amritkal missions, focusing on self-reliance and sustainable growth in the maritime domain.

Collaboration with Key Strategic Partners
The MoUs were signed by Cmde A Vinith, IN (Retd.), Chief General Manager, GRSE, with the following prominent organizations:
- Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), Kandla
- Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port Authority (SMPA), Kolkata
- Indian Port Rail & Ropeway Corporation Limited (IPRCL)
- The Shipping Corporation of India (SCI)
- Modest Infrastructure Private Limited (MIPL)
These partnerships will facilitate a structured and coordinated approach toward enhancing shipbuilding, port infrastructure, and allied services.
Focus on Green and Sustainable Maritime Solutions
The MoUs lay the groundwork for joint development of various projects including new vessel construction with a special focus on green and low-emission ships, which are in line with international environmental standards and the Green Tug Transit Protocol (GTTP).
In addition, the collaboration covers ship repair services, development and maintenance of port infrastructure such as jetties and berths, multimodal logistics, and last-mile connectivity. Civil, rail, and ropeway infrastructure projects related to ports and terminals will also be part of the cooperative framework.

Cmde Hari expressed optimism about the future, stating, “With our legacy of delivering world-class warships and expanding into commercial shipbuilding, GRSE is fully committed to supporting India’s maritime resurgence.
