Ahmedabad: On the occasion of Republic Day, Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi extended heartfelt greetings to citizens, saying that January 26 symbolizes India’s self-respect, unity, and strength as the world’s largest democracy.
Significance of Republic Day and the Constitution
Speaking at the district-level Republic Day celebration at Ahmedabad Rural Police Headquarters, Makarba, Sanghavi said:
“The adoption of the Constitution on January 26, 1950, under Dr BR Ambedkar’s visionary leadership, laid the foundation of equality, justice, and democratic values in India.”
He praised the contributions of Gujarat stalwarts like Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Morarji Desai, Gulzarilal Nanda, and Kanhaiyalal Munshi in nation-building and highlighted how Prime Minister Narendra Modi continues to give India and Gujarat global recognition through development-driven governance.
Tribute to Gujarat Police and Cadets
Deputy CM Sanghavi commended the discipline and dedication of Gujarat Police personnel, NCC cadets, Student Police Cadets, and Home Guards during the parade.
He said, “The confidence visible in their march reflects the trust of crores of citizens in the Gujarat Police.”
Ahmedabad’s Historic Role in Freedom Struggle
Sanghavi recalled Ahmedabad’s key role in India’s freedom movement, mentioning Mahatma Gandhi’s Sabarmati Ashram and Sardar Patel’s leadership in shaping modern India.
He said, “Under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and CM Bhupendra Patel, Gujarat has achieved inclusive, balanced, and sustainable development.”
He also highlighted Ahmedabad’s recognition as India’s first World Heritage City, calling it a symbol of India’s heritage and progress.
Commemoration of Bhuj Earthquake Anniversary
Meanwhile, Air Vice Marshal Gurjot Singh Bhullar, Senior Officer-in-Charge Administration (SOA), South Western Air Command, visited Air Force Station Bhuj on Monday to participate in a wreath-laying ceremony marking the 25th anniversary of the 2001 Bhuj earthquake.
