Gandhinagar: In a landmark initiative aimed at turning Gujarat’s sacred town of Ambaji into a globally renowned pilgrimage and spiritual tourism destination, the Gujarat Government has unveiled a ₹1,632 crore master plan. Under the direct supervision of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the ambitious plan seeks to redevelop the iconic Ambaji Temple complex and its surrounding sacred sites with a 50-year forward-looking vision.
‘Shakti Corridor’ to Connect Sacred Sites: A Divine Pathway for Pilgrims
At the heart of the project lies the development of the Shakti Corridor — a spiritual pathway that will connect the Ambaji Mata Temple, Gabbar Parvat (believed to be the site where Goddess Sati’s heart fell), and Mansarovar. The integrated corridor will include:
- Shakti Chowk and Gabbar Darshan Chowk, connected via the Shaktipath pedestrian route
- Enhanced thematic development inspired by the mythology of Goddess Sati
Pedestrian underpasses, multi-level parking, Yatri Bhavan, and light & sound shows at Gabbar Arrival Plaza

Phase-Wise Execution: ₹950 Crore in Phase One, ₹682 Crore in Phase Two
The project will be executed in two phases:

- Phase Two (₹682 crore): Includes further upgrades to Gabbar Temple, Mansarovar zone, and the Sati Sarovar.
The Gujarat Pavitra Yatradham Vikas Board, under the state Tourism Department, will be the nodal agency for implementation.
Modern Amenities for Devotees, Rooted in Cultural Heritage
To support lakhs of annual pilgrims, especially during full moon days and the famed Bhadarvi Poonam Mela, the plan includes:
- Expansion of Chachar Chowk to three times its current size
- Mythology-themed galleries, murals, and open-air exhibition spaces
- Event plazas and garba grounds near Sati Sarovar and Sati Ghat
Development of a Parikrama Path, Gabbar Ropeway, and improved crowd movement systems

Vision of “Vikas Bhi, Virasat Bhi” Moves Forward
The redevelopment of Ambaji is part of the broader national campaign initiated by Prime Minister Modi to rejuvenate India’s religious sites while preserving their cultural essence. CM Bhupendra Patel reaffirmed his commitment to elevate Ambaji as a model temple town with global recognition.
This initiative reflects the core philosophy of “Vikas Bhi, Virasat Bhi” (Development with Heritage), blending cutting-edge infrastructure with sacred traditions to offer a spiritually immersive experience for generations to come.
