About UPPCS Exam

The UPPCS Exam, officially known as the Uttar Pradesh Combined State/Upper Subordinate Services Examination, is a competitive state-level civil services exam conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) to recruit candidates for various Group A and Group B administrative posts like Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), and Block Development Officer (BDO) etc.

The selection process involves three stages

  • Preliminary Examination (Prelims): This is a screening stage with two objective-type papers: General Studies I and General Studies II (CSAT). CSAT is a qualifying paper (minimum 33% marks needed), and merit for the mains is determined by the Paper I score.
  • Main Examination (Mains): This stage consists of eight descriptive/essay-type papers, including General Hindi, Essay, and six General Studies papers (GS I to GS VI), two of which focus on specific aspects of Uttar Pradesh. The total marks for the Mains exam are 1500, and these scores are crucial for the final merit list.
  • Personality Test (Interview): Candidates who clear the Mains are called for an interview, which assesses their personality and suitability for a public service career. This final stage carries 100 marks.
Candidates must be between 21 and 40 years old, with age relaxation for reserved categories, and hold a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university. The final selection is based on the combined marks from the Mains exam and the interview.
