New Delhi: Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has marked a major milestone under Project Pragati, with the felicitation of 11 trainees representing the 10,000 mechanics successfully trained under the initiative. The event was held in the presence of H. D. Kumaraswamy, Union Minister of Heavy Industries.
Project Pragati is a BPCL CSR initiative focused on strengthening the technical and professional skills of mechanics across India, particularly in the maintenance of BS6-compliant two-wheelers and four-wheelers.
Project Pragati Trains 10,000 Mechanics
The initiative has reached the milestone of training 10,000 mechanics, supporting the development of a more skilled workforce in India’s automotive service ecosystem.
Along with technical training, Project Pragati also focuses on improving trainees’ capabilities in:
- Customer handling
- Entrepreneurship
- Vehicle maintenance
- Advanced diagnostic practices
- Skills required for sustainable livelihoods
The programme aims to help mechanics adapt to the evolving technologies used in modern BS6-compliant vehicles.
Training Covers BS6 Engine and Diagnostic Technologies
Implemented in partnership with the Automotive Skills Development Council (ASDC), the centre-based programme provides training in key automotive technologies.
The training covers:
- BS6 engine technology
- Fuel injection systems
- OBD-I and OBD-II
- Advanced diagnostic tools
- Vehicle electrical systems
The programme is designed to strengthen practical technical capabilities and help mechanics handle newer vehicle technologies more effectively.
Trainees Receive Joint Certification from BPCL and ASDC
Trainees who complete the programme receive joint certification from ASDC and BPCL.
In addition, select candidates have the opportunity to pursue NSQF Level 5 certification, further supporting their professional development and recognition of their skills.
BPCL Focuses on Strengthening Automotive Service Ecosystem
The 10,000-mechanic milestone highlights BPCL’s continued efforts to strengthen India’s unorganised automotive service ecosystem.
By combining technical training with customer handling and entrepreneurship skills, Project Pragati seeks to support a more capable and self-reliant workforce while creating opportunities for sustainable livelihoods.
The initiative also reflects BPCL’s focus on using its CSR programmes to contribute to skill development and inclusive economic participation across the country.
