India-Russia Steel Partnership Takes Centre Stage at INNOPROM India 2026

New Delhi: India and Russia explored opportunities to deepen cooperation across the steel and mining value chain at INNOPROM India 2026, with discussions focusing on raw material security, technology exchange, investment and sustainable steel production.

The Ministry of Steel has established the India Steel Pavilion at Bharat Mandapam during the Russian industrial exhibition, being held from September 9 to 11. The pavilion, themed “Forging Together – For Infinite Progress,” showcases India’s steel sector and opportunities for collaboration with Russian industry.

Steel Pavilion Highlights India’s Industrial Capabilities

The pavilion brings together key Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) under the Ministry of Steel, including:

  • SAIL
  • NMDC
  • MOIL
  • MECON

The organisations are showcasing their technological capabilities, achievements and ongoing and potential areas of cooperation with Russian companies across the steel and mining value chain.

The pavilion also presents opportunities for India-Russia cooperation in areas including:

  • Coking coal
  • Nickel
  • Speciality steel
  • Research and development
  • Advanced steel technologies

India, Russia Discuss Stronger Steel Value-Chain Cooperation

A dedicated session on “India–Russia Collaboration on Steel Value Chain” was held under the India-Russia Business Dialogue, with support from the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

The session was co-chaired by Sandeep Poundrik, Secretary, Ministry of Steel, and Mikhail Yurin, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation.

Representatives from Russian steel, mining and metallurgical companies participated alongside senior officials from the Ministry of Steel, Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade and Indian steel-sector CPSEs.

Key Areas Identified for Cooperation

The discussions highlighted the complementary strengths of India and Russia across different parts of the steel value chain.

The two sides explored cooperation in:

  • Investment in the steel and mining sectors
  • Technology exchange and advanced metallurgical technologies
  • Sustainable steel production
  • Raw material and supply-chain security
  • Advanced steel products and downstream applications
  • Research and innovation

The discussions also emphasised the role of the steel industry in supporting infrastructure development, manufacturing competitiveness and broader industrial growth.

Focus on Technology and Supply-Chain Resilience

The collaboration discussions come amid efforts by both countries to strengthen industrial linkages and improve resilience across strategic supply chains.

Greater cooperation in advanced steel technologies, sustainable production and specialised steel products could support industrial modernisation and innovation while expanding opportunities for businesses in both countries.

INNOPROM India 2026 is being held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi from September 9 to 11, providing a platform for Indian and Russian industries to explore partnerships across key industrial sectors.
