Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court has quashed an order permitting a potency test on suspended trainee IPS officer M Uday Krishna Reddy, who is accused of sexually assaulting a fellow woman trainee IPS officer.
Justice J Srinivas Rao set aside the August 17 order of the III Additional Junior Civil Judge-cum-XXV Additional Judicial Magistrate of First Class, Rangareddy district, Rajendranagar.
Court Sets Aside Magistrate’s Order
Uday Krishna Reddy had challenged the magistrate’s order through a criminal petition. The prosecution had sought permission for his potency examination under Section 52 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

The officer opposed the application, arguing that the proposed examination was not legally sustainable.
After examining the matter and referring to principles laid down by the Madras and Karnataka High Courts in similar cases, the Telangana High Court held that the prosecution’s application was not in accordance with those principles.

Trainee IPS Officer Remains in Custody
Uday Krishna Reddy is currently under suspension and in judicial custody in connection with the case.
The latest order concerns the legality of the magistrate’s permission for the potency examination and does not amount to a finding on the underlying sexual assault allegations.
From Police Constable to Trainee IPS Officer
M Uday Krishna Reddy secured All India Rank 350 in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2024. He holds a BA in English Literature and had previously served as a police constable before qualifying for the civil services.
