The event was held in Bengaluru, where senior officials from HAL and the Indian Coast Guard were present. This delivery is part of India’s broader push toward self-reliance in defence manufacturing under “Make in India.”

The helicopters were delivered on schedule, showcasing HAL’s improved production efficiency and commitment to defence readiness.

Key Officials Present at the Event

The ceremony was attended by senior officials including:

  • DIG Rajesh Makwana – Coast Guard Commander (Western Seaboard)
  • P. B. Rangarao – CEO, Helicopter Complex, HAL

Their presence highlights the importance of this induction for India’s maritime defence ecosystem.

What is ALH Mk III Maritime Role Helicopter?

The ALH Mk III MR is an advanced version of the Dhruv helicopter, specially designed for maritime operations.

What are the Features of ALH Mk III Maritime Helicopters

  • Equipped with modern surveillance radar
  • Electro-optical sensors for day & night operations
  • Search and Rescue (SAR) equipment
  • Capability for medical evacuation (MEDEVAC)
  • Advanced communication and navigation systems

These helicopters are designed to operate in harsh sea conditions, making them highly effective for coastal and offshore missions.

By reducing dependency on imports, India is:

  • Saving foreign exchange
  • Strengthening domestic industry
  • Enhancing strategic autonomy

Strategic Impact for India

India has a coastline of over 7,500 km, making maritime security a top priority.

The ALH Mk III helicopters will:

  • Improve real-time surveillance
  • Enhance rapid response capability
  • Support joint operations with Navy and other agencies

This move comes at a time when maritime threats, including smuggling and illegal fishing, are rising.
