Panchkula: In a commendable gesture, newly appointed Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Srishti Gupta, an IPS officer of 2021 batch from Haryana cadre, on Tuesday honoured traffic police personnel who unknowingly stopped her during a drink-and-drive checkpoint operation and asked her to undergo an alco-sensor test.
DCP Gupta, who was in civil clothes and a private vehicle, conducted a surprise inspection on Sunday to assess the alertness of checkpoint teams and review the ongoing anti-drunk driving campaign across Panchkula.
The officers, unaware of her identity, followed standard protocol and asked her to blow into the breathalyser, demonstrating vigilance and professionalism. Impressed by their conduct, she later invited them to her office in Sector 1 for a felicitation ceremony.
Appreciation Letters and Cash Rewards for Integrity
During the ceremony, the DCP awarded the vigilant officers with letters of appreciation and cash rewards. She praised them for doing their duty without hesitation, even when the individual in question turned out to be a senior police official.
In addition to these officers, Special Police Officers (SPOs) Dharamveer and Surjeet Singh were also felicitated for their role in intercepting a vehicle smuggling illegal liquor. Acting swiftly at a check post, the duo managed to seize the contraband and detain the offenders. Their alertness and prompt action were praised as a model of on-ground policing.
Home Guards Also Recognised for Outstanding Work
DCP Gupta also acknowledged the efforts of Home Guards Praveen Kumar, Kishan Singh, and Mohit Kumar, who were actively involved in the drink-and-drive campaign. The three were applauded for issuing challans efficiently and supporting the campaign’s success.
“These individuals have set an example of what it means to be truly vigilant and committed to public safety,” Gupta stated during the ceremony.
Public Urged to Report Misconduct and Corruption
In an effort to enhance transparency and accountability, the DCP encouraged residents to report any instances of police misconduct or corruption. Citizens can directly contact her via call or WhatsApp at 81466-30005.
“Your input is crucial in ensuring accountability, and confidentiality will be maintained,” said the DCP, underlining the importance of community involvement in maintaining clean and responsive policing.
