Former Director-General of Intelligence, P.S.R. Anjaneyulu, who is currently in 14-day judicial custody for his alleged role in the illegal arrest and harassment of actor Kadambari Jethwani, could not be interrogated by the Crime Investigation Department (CID) police on Sunday, April 27, 2025, due to health issues.
Mr Anjaneyulu, who was granted three days of police custody from April 27 to April 29, was supposed to be questioned by CID officials. However, the jail authorities in Vijayawada informed the police that the former IPS officer was suffering from high blood pressure. Following this, he was shifted to the Government General Hospital for a medical check-up.
Upon examination, doctors at the hospital advised that Mr. Anjaneyulu was not in a condition to undergo interrogation. Acting on the medical advice, the CID police refrained from questioning him on the first day of custody. Later, he was brought back to the Vijayawada jail.
The CID had arrested Mr. Anjaneyulu a few days ago in connection with the case, which dates back to February 2024. It is alleged that he was a key conspirator in framing actor Kadambari Jethwani and her family members in a false case. The Ibrahimpatnam police, allegedly acting under political pressure, had travelled to Mumbai to arrest Ms. Jethwani and her parents. The three were jailed for 42 days before being granted bail.
Following these events, Ms. Jethwani filed a complaint, leading to the registration of a case against YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader Kukkala Vidyasagar and five police officials, including Mr. Anjaneyulu, in September 2024. The case has drawn significant attention due to the involvement of senior police officers and political figures.
With doctors ruling out interrogation for now, the CID will have to reassess their investigation strategy during the remaining two days of custody.
