In a surprising move, high profile IPS officer of Telangana, Dr R S Praveen Kumar, who did exemplary work for scores of underprivileged children of the state, has put in his papers. He has sought voluntarily retirement six years before his superannuation.
Dr Kumar may have startled many in the Indian bureaucratic circles by his sudden move, but there is more to it than what appears at first glance. In fact the tweet through which the super cop made public his decision to quit the civil services throws broad hints at his further game-plan. And he seems to have more than one.
Tweeted Dr Kumar: “After 26 years of serving the motherland as an IPS officer, I have applied today for voluntary retirement to pursue my passion for social justice and equality with more vigour at my own pace. I thank you all for standing by me throughout my career.”
He also mailed his resignation letter to Telangana Chief Secretary Mr Somesh Kumar.
A 1995-batch IPS officer, Dr Kumar is at present Additional Director General of Police in Telangana. But most of his work and energy is devoted to his endeavor as the secretary of Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society and Telangana Tribal Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society.
Dr Kumar has not yet made his future move public. He is keeping his cards close to his chest. But the grapevine suggests that politics could be his next port of call, and he could soon be in the TRS camp.
