The Himachal Pradesh High Court on Wednesday extended interim protection to IAS officer Harikesh Meena, who is under investigation in connection with the alleged abetment to suicide of Vimal Negi. Negi, whose body was found in Govind Sagar Lake on March 18, had been missing since March 10. His family claims he was subjected to sustained workplace harassment, with Meena and HPPCL official Desh Raj named in the FIR.
Justice Varinder Singh, presiding over the matter, ruled that no coercive steps should be taken against Meena until the case is heard again on May 2. The court also mandated Meena’s personal appearance and instructed all parties to follow the interim directive.
Meena’s counsel, NS Chandel, confirmed the court’s order, adding that the officer now has temporary reprieve. The matter has attracted attention following serious allegations from Negi’s family against HPPCL officials. The Supreme Court had earlier granted interim bail to Desh Raj on April 4, valid until July 22. Meanwhile, a Special Investigation Team has submitted a supplementary report, though its contents remain confidential.
