Mussoorie/Shimla: Himachal Pradesh has once again made its mark on the national stage, as young IAS officer Vivek Chandel (2004 batch) was awarded the Best Performance Award in the Case Study Writing Competition during the prestigious 127th Induction Training Program at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA), Mussoorie.
The award was presented by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla at a grand ceremony held at the Academy. This rare honor underscores Vivek Chandel’s exceptional analytical abilities, administrative acumen, and deep understanding of policy-making.
Stood Out Among 97 IAS Officers from Across India
A total of 97 newly appointed IAS officers from 19 states participated in the rigorous training program. Among them, only Vivek Chandel was selected for the Best Performance in Case Study Writing, making it a standout achievement early in his civil service career.
The ceremony was also attended by LBSNAA Director Shriram Tarinikanti and Course Director Shailesh Naval, who lauded the quality of work presented by the officer.

Another National-Level Recognition for Vivek Chandel
This is not the first time Vivek Chandel has demonstrated leadership on a national platform. Earlier this month, he was selected as the Master of Ceremonies at an official program held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on June 3, highlighting his command over public speaking and stage coordination—skills rarely seen at this level.
Track Record of Excellence
Chandel has been a high achiever since the beginning of his administrative journey. He was the topper of the Himachal Administrative Services (HAS) Exam in 2004. Currently, he is serving as Director and Warden in the Himachal Pradesh Fisheries Department, where he is known for his efficiency, foresight, and policy innovation.
Inspiration for Aspiring Civil Servants
This achievement brings immense pride to Himachal Pradesh, especially its administrative cadre. It also sends a powerful message to aspiring civil servants—that with dedication, hard work, and strong leadership qualities, one can gain national recognition, even from a small state.
LBSNAA’s induction training is known as one of the toughest administrative programs in the country, and excelling in it is a significant milestone for any officer.
Three Officers Represented Himachal at LBSNAA
Apart from Vivek Chandel, two other officers from Himachal Pradesh—Sunil Sharma, Special Secretary, Technical Education, and Vinay Kumar, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Kangra—also participated in the training. Among them, Chandel emerged as a national-level awardee, further enhancing the state’s reputation in administrative circles.
