Mumbai: Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) prominently showcased its advanced capabilities in shipbuilding, ship repair, and green propulsion systems at India Maritime Week (IMW) 2025, held at the Bombay Exhibition Centre, Mumbai, from October 27–31. The event, organized by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways in collaboration with the Indian Ports Association (IPA), brought together global industry leaders, policymakers, and maritime stakeholders to deliberate on the future of India’s maritime sector under the Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047. The five-day event was graced by the Prime Minister of India, the Union Home Minister, senior government officials, and key figures from international shipbuilding and shipping industries.
HSL Exhibition Highlights Advanced Maritime Solutions
HSL’s exhibition booth, inaugurated by Cmde Girideep Singh, IN (Retd.), Chairman & Managing Director, highlighted the shipyard’s core strengths in shipbuilding, ship repair, submarine refit, and green energy-driven propulsion systems. The booth also underscored HSL’s commitment to integrating sustainable technologies and promoting self-reliance in both defense and commercial maritime segments.
HSL’s leadership actively participated in multiple panel discussions and technical sessions focused on indigenous shipbuilding, green maritime technologies, and Industry 4.0 innovations, positioning the company as a thought leader in the evolving maritime ecosystem.

Strategic Collaborations and MoUs
As part of its strategic outreach during IMW 2025, HSL signed several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and collaboration agreements with Indian and international partners to strengthen capabilities in ship repair, design innovation, skill development, and green technologies. Key agreements included:
- MoU with Indian Ports Association (IPA) for the development of Green/Hydrogen Tugs under the Government of India’s Green Tug Transition Programme (GTTP).
- Technology Partnership Agreement with Lotus Wireless India Pvt. Ltd. (LWT) for Electric/Hydrogen Tugs.
- MoU with Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) for construction of a 60T BP Conventional Tug.
- MoU with Centre of Excellence in Maritime and Shipbuilding (CEMS) to deliver advanced training programs in AI, AR/VR, Robotics, and Additive Manufacturing.
- MoU with M/s MCI World LLC, Dubai to promote HSL’s ship repair business across the Middle East and North Africa.
- MoU with Dredging Corporation of India (DCI) for docking, repair, and maintenance of DCI vessels at HSL.
Infrastructure Modernization and Future Projects
HSL also showcased its ongoing infrastructure modernization and capacity enhancement initiatives, aimed at improving productivity, efficiency, and turnaround times. The shipyard is preparing to bid for upcoming commercial and defense projects, including Platform Supply Vessels (PSVs), Medium Range (MR) Tankers, and Landing Platform Docks (LPDs), in collaboration with global technology partners.
During the Andhra Pradesh State Session on Shipbuilding, HSL engaged with policymakers and officials led by Minister BC Janardhan Reddy and MT Krishna Babu (IAS) to explore ways to strengthen the maritime ecosystem in the state. The shipyard also contributed to policy-level discussions on initiatives such as the Shipbuilding Financial Assistance Scheme (SBFAS), Shipbuilding Development Scheme (SbDS), and Credit Risk Coverage frameworks.
