Hindustan Zinc announced that its greenhouse gas emission intensity had dropped by 14% in the last four years owing to its focused efforts. In order to reduce its carbon footprint, Hindustan Zinc has been increasing the quantum of renewable energy in its energy mix and improving its operational efficiency.
It said, “Through the strategic use of advanced technology, the company has recorded a 14% decrease in GHG (greenhouse gas) emission intensity compared to the base year 2020 while increasing production each year.”
This valued achievement by the PSU could not have been possible but for its Pantnagar Metal Plant – which operates on 100% green power and signed a 450-mw renewable power delivery agreement poised to mitigate around 2.7 million tons of CO2 emissions annually.
The Indian government has a 30 percent stake in Hindustan Zinc.
