Shot entirely in Bhopal and nearby areas, the film marks MP’s growing global influence as a filming destination

Bhopal: In a proud moment for Madhya Pradesh and Indian cinema, the feature film “Homebound” – shot entirely in Bhopal and surrounding areas – has been selected as India’s official entry for the Best International Feature Film category at the 98th Academy Awards (Oscars 2026).

Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav extended heartfelt congratulations to the entire film team, stating that this recognition reinforces Madhya Pradesh’s growing stature as a global film shooting hub.

“A Moment of Pride for the State and Country” — CM Dr. Yadav

Chief Minister Yadav hailed the selection as a “historic and proud moment,” not just for the film industry but for the entire state. He emphasized that the international recognition of “Homebound” reflects Madhya Pradesh’s rich cultural heritage, artistic excellence, and scenic beauty.

“This is an unprecedented moment of pride for Madhya Pradesh. The global success of ‘Homebound’ is a result of our commitment to promoting film tourism through transparency, ease of shooting, and strong policy support,” said Dr. Yadav.

He further expressed confidence that “Homebound” will achieve significant success at the Oscars, bringing more glory to both the state and the nation.

Filmed Entirely in Bhopal and Surroundings

“Homebound” was filmed in 2024 across Bhopal’s natural, urban, and cultural backdrops, making the most of the state’s cinematic appeal. It joins a growing list of high-profile productions choosing Madhya Pradesh as their primary shooting location.

The film is produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions — their fifth film in MP – and directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, known for the acclaimed film Masaan. The cast includes Ishaan Khattar, Vishal Jethwa, and Janhvi Kapoor in leading roles.

Following in the Footsteps of “Missing Ladies”

Notably, this achievement comes just a year after “Missing Ladies” – also shot in Madhya Pradesh – was nominated for the Oscars in 2024. The back-to-back recognition of films shot in the state underlines MP’s rising importance in Indian and global cinema.

Madhya Pradesh’s Film-Friendly Ecosystem Driving Growth

The success of “Homebound” is being widely attributed to Madhya Pradesh’s revamped Film Tourism Policy 2025, which features

  • Single-window clearance system
  • Simplified permissions
  • Attractive financial subsidies
  • Supportive government environment

The state has so far hosted over 350 films and web series under this policy. More than ₹24 crore in financial incentives has been disbursed across 12 Hindi films, one Telugu film, and six web series.

In recognition of its efforts, the Government of India awarded Madhya Pradesh the title of “Most Film-Friendly State.”

Inspiring Young Filmmakers

CM Dr. Yadav added that “Homebound’s” Oscar nomination will inspire young filmmakers from the state to dream big and explore opportunities in cinema. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the creative industry and making Madhya Pradesh a preferred destination for domestic and international productions.
