HPCL Appoints Ved Prakash Verma as Chief Vigilance Officer to Strengthen Governance and Compliance

1995-batch ITS officer joins Mumbai-based public sector oil major for a three-year tenure under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas

New Delhi: The Government of India has approved the appointment of Mr. Ved Prakash Verma as the Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), Mumbai. The appointment has been cleared by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) and will be under the administrative control of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.

Mr. Ved Prakash Verma is an Indian Telecom Service (ITS) officer of the 1995 batch and brings with him extensive administrative and vigilance-related experience. His appointment is seen as a significant step towards further strengthening governance and transparency mechanisms within HPCL.

Tenure and Pay Scale

According to the official order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Mr. Verma will serve in Pay Level 14, with a salary ranging from ₹1,44,200 to ₹2,18,200. His tenure as CVO will be for an initial period of three years from the date he assumes charge, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Relief from Parent Department

The Department of Telecommunications has been directed to relieve Mr. Verma immediately so that he can take up his new assignment without delay. This move ensures a smooth transition and timely assumption of responsibilities at HPCL.

Strengthening Vigilance Framework

The appointment of Mr. Verma is expected to bolster HPCL’s vigilance and compliance framework at a time when the public sector oil major is expanding its footprint across India. A strong vigilance setup is considered crucial for ensuring ethical practices, accountability, and efficient functioning in large public sector enterprises.
