New Delhi: The Indian Air Force (IAF) has released the first operational visuals of its S-400 air defence system, showcasing the missile system in action and underlining India’s growing defensive strength. This key footage comes months after Operation Sindoor, the IAF’s major mission carried out in May 2025 following heightened tensions with Pakistan.

The new video highlights the S-400’s long-range strike capability and how it integrates with India’s multi-layered air defence network — a major development in Indian defence readiness.

Details is IAF S-400 Air Defence Visuals

The IAF posted the video on social media platform X, showing the S-400 (named Sudarshan in Indian service) tracking and engaging aerial targets. Radar screens and the missile launch sequence are visible in the footage, giving civilians a rare insight into one of India’s most advanced defence systems.

While not recorded during the actual conflict, the video references Operation Sindoor and promotes the system’s strike range, reportedly achieving what the IAF describes as the “longest-ever air kill recorded in military history.”

What is S-400

The S-400 Triumf is a Russian-made long-range surface-to-air missile system capable of detecting, tracking, and engaging aircraft, drones, and missiles at distances up to around 400 kilometres. India procured these systems under a major deal with Russia and has inducted them into operational service over the past few years.

The system boosts India’s capability to spot threats early and neutralize them before they enter strategic airspace. It forms a key layer in a defensive network that includes other systems like Akash and indigenous radars.

IAF S-400 Air Defence Visuals: Role in Operation Sindoor

Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7, 2025 after a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The Indian Air Force responded with precision strikes deep within Pakistani territory targeting terrorist bases and military infrastructure.

In October 2025, the IAF Chief confirmed that the S-400 played a critical role, neutralising hostile aircraft at very long ranges — reportedly up to 300 km inside Pakistani airspace.

Experts consider this engagement one of the largest long-range surface-to-air kills ever recorded, highlighting how the system strengthened India’s air defence during real combat conditions.

Importance of IAF S-400 Air Defence Visuals

Strategic Defence Advantage: The S-400 enhances India’s ability to protect critical infrastructure and population centres.

Deterrence Value: Long-range intercept capability acts as a deterrent against potential threats from adversaries.

Operational Transparency: For the first time, the public sees how this advanced system operates, building confidence in India’s defence preparedness.
