Ajay Bhadoo, a 1999-batch IAS officer from the Gujarat cadre, has been entrusted with the additional charge of Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) for a period of three months.
Currently serving as Additional Secretary in the Department of Commerce since August 2024, Bhadoo brings with him over two decades of administrative experience, spanning key sectors including urban infrastructure and governance.
Bhadoo has previously held prominent positions, such as Deputy Election Commissioner at the Election Commission of India and Joint Secretary to former President Ram Nath Kovind. He has also served as CEO of the Gujarat Maritime Board and as Commissioner of the Rajkot and Vadodara Municipal Corporations.
An engineer by training, Bhadoo holds a degree in Civil Engineering and a Master’s in Business Law from the National Law School of India University, Bengaluru.
The DGFT functions under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and is tasked with formulating and implementing the country’s foreign trade policies.
