New Delhi: In a short-term arrangement, Amit Agrawal (IAS:1993:CG), currently serving as Secretary, Department of Pharmaceuticals, has been entrusted with the additional charge of Secretary, Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals.
The appointment has been approved by the competent authority, according to an official order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Wednesday, August 20, 2025.
Temporary Charge During Leave of Incumbent Officer
Agrawal will hold the additional responsibility from August 21 to August 27, 2025, during the leave period of the incumbent, Nivedita Shukla Verma (IAS:1991:UP). Verma is currently the full-time Secretary of the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals.
Extensive Experience in Central Administration
A 1993-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Chhattisgarh cadre, Amit Agrawal is well-regarded in administrative circles for his strong track record at the Centre. He has been on central deputation since 2016, having held a series of significant assignments in key ministries. Many in the bureaucracy view him primarily as a central bureaucrat due to his longstanding presence in Union Government roles.
