In a significant administrative reshuffle, the Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma led Assam Government on Tuesday issued transfer and posting orders affecting several senior IAS and ACS officers across the state.
The reassignments aim to streamline governance and bring in fresh leadership across critical departments and districts.
Key IAS Appointments and Transfers
Varnali Deka, 2009 batch IAS officer and formerly District Commissioner of Nalbari, has been appointed as Commissioner & Secretary to the Government of Assam, General Administration Department.
Devassih Sharma, IAS, who held a dual charge as District Commissioner of Morigaon and Joint Resident Commissioner, Assam Bhawan, Mumbai, has now been transferred as the District Commissioner of Nagaon. He will continue to hold his additional Mumbai assignment.
Khanindra Choudhury, IAS, previously serving as District Commissioner of Goalpara, has been appointed as Secretary to the Chief Minister of Assam.
Narendra Shah, IAS, the outgoing District Commissioner of Nagaon, has been appointed as Director, Employment & Craftsmen Training, Assam, and Managing Director of AIIDC, with additional charge.
ACS Officers Take on New Roles
Nivedan Das Patowary, ACS, formerly Joint Secretary, P&RD Department and MD, ASRLM (Addl.), has been appointed as the new District Commissioner of Nalbari.
Pradip Timung, ACS, who served as Director of Sports & Youth Welfare and MD, Assam State Warehousing Corporation, has been posted as the District Commissioner of Goalpara.
Anamika Tewari, ACS, who was Joint Secretary, Labour Welfare Department, and Commissioner of Labour (Addl.), is now appointed as District Commissioner of Morigaon.
Other Strategic Reassignments
Kumud Moni Sarmah Bordoloi, IAS, serving as Joint Secretary, Industries & Commerce and OSD to the Chief Minister, has been transferred as Joint Secretary to the Government of Assam, P&RD, and MD, ASRLM, while continuing as OSD to the CM.
Virendra Mittal, IAS, has been relieved from the additional charge of Commissioner & Secretary, General Administration Department, while continuing his existing roles in the Finance Department and as PD, ARIAS.
Anant Lal Gyani, IAS, who held multiple responsibilities including Secretary, Revenue & DM Department, and Additional CEO, ASDMA, has been relieved from the charge of Director, Employment & Craftsmen Training, Assam.
Significance of the Reshuffle
This reshuffle is expected to strengthen governance across the state, especially in key administrative districts such as Nalbari, Morigaon, Nagaon, and Goalpara. It also aligns senior officials with critical departments such as Labour, Panchayat & Rural Development, Employment, and Youth Welfare.
