IAS officer Ayushi Dabas, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Vasant Vihar, has made headlines by winning Rs 25 lakh in the 17th season of the popular television game show Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC), hosted by Bollywood legend Mr. Amitabh Bachchan. Known for her unwavering determination, Ms. Dabas’ appearance on the show is more than just a game show moment; it is an inspiring narrative of resilience and triumph over adversity.

A Journey of Resilience and Determination

Ms. Ayushi Dabas, despite being visually impaired since childhood, has continuously defied the odds to achieve remarkable milestones in her life. Born and raised in Rani Kheda, Ayushi faced multiple challenges growing up but never allowed them to limit her ambitions. After completing her schooling, she began working as a teacher in a Municipal Corporation school while simultaneously pursuing her college education. With grit and dedication, Ayushi secured first place in all three years of her college studies.

In 2015, she decided to pursue her dream of joining the Indian Administrative Service (IAS). Overcoming numerous obstacles, including her visual impairment, Ms. Dabas cleared the highly competitive UPSC exams in 2022 with an All India Rank (AIR) of 48—becoming the highest-ranked blind candidate ever in UPSC history.

The KBC Journey: From Fastest Finger First to Rs 25 Lakh

Ms. Dabas’ moment on Kaun Banega Crorepati started with the “Fastest Finger First” round, where she emerged victorious and secured her spot on the coveted hot seat. As she made her way to the seat, she was warmly escorted by Mr. Amitabh Bachchan, who praised her spirit and determination throughout the episode.

In an emotional moment during the show, Ms. Dabas shared how KBC was more than just a game to her. It was a tradition in her family to watch the show together, and she spoke about how her family members would often discuss the show’s set, lighting, and the ways in which the host made contestants feel comfortable. She expressed that KBC was not merely a game but an “emotion” that resonated deeply with her and her family.

Overcoming Challenges to Achieve Greatness

Ms. Dabas, who spent 10 years as a lecturer before entering the civil services, inspired millions with her incredible story of perseverance. She was not only a scholar but also a role model for countless differently-abled students. Her resilience continues to inspire the National Capital’s Non-Collegiate Women’s Education Board (NCWEB) students and people from diverse backgrounds.

Ayushi’s academic journey is a testament to her determination, having studied at Delhi University (DU) and securing a place among the top ranks in the UPSC. Her journey from a lecturer to an IAS officer is a shining example of how challenges can be transformed into stepping stones.

A Missed Opportunity and Gratitude

During the show, Ms. Dabas faced a challenging question worth Rs 50 lakh related to astronaut Kalpana Chawla. She admitted that, despite using all her lifelines, she couldn’t answer the question. At that point, she decided to quit the game, taking home a well-earned Rs 25 lakh.

Her decision to exit the game despite reaching such a high point only speaks to her pragmatic approach and desire to ensure that she walked away with what she had already earned, rather than risking it all on a single unanswered question.

Fulfilling a Dream

Ms. Dabas also shared a heartfelt story about her mother’s dreams of meeting two prominent figures: Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi and Mr. Amitabh Bachchan. By participating in Kaun Banega Crorepati, Ayushi fulfilled both of her mother’s wishes, an emotional moment that touched the hearts of many viewers.

IAS Officer Ms. Ayushi Dabas’ appearance on Kaun Banega Crorepati is a powerful reminder that obstacles are not barriers but opportunities for growth. She continues to be an inspiration for millions, proving that vision is not just about eyesight but about the strength of character, determination, and resilience.
