In a significant development for Gujarat’s bureaucracy, 20 senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers are set to retire in 2025, including several top officials who have played pivotal roles in the state’s governance. This group has made notable contributions to sectors such as revenue, finance, education, and tribal development.
Prominent among the retirees are:
- Mr. Raj Kumar (1987-batch): Chief Secretary of Gujarat, known for his leadership in the state secretariat.
- Mr. Pankaj Joshi (1989-batch): Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister.
- Ms. Sunaina Tomar (1989-batch): Additional Chief Secretary, Education Department.
- Mr. S. J. Haider (1991-batch): Additional Chief Secretary, Energy & Petrochemicals Department.
- Mr. Jagdish Prasad Gupta (1991-batch): Additional Chief Secretary, Tribal Development Department.
- Mr. Kamal Dayani (1990-batch): Additional Chief Secretary, General Administration Department.
Other officers retiring include those inducted into the IAS between 2007 and 2014, such as Mr. A. B. Patel (Joint Chief Electoral Officer), Mr. A. M. Sharma (Principal Secretary to the Governor), and Mr. D. J. Jadeja (Chief Town Planner, Gandhinagar).
Currently, Gujarat has 227 IAS officers serving in various capacities, including positions in the Central government. In 2023, nine officers from the Centre were appointed as supernumerary assistant collectors in the state.
Looking ahead, 2026 is poised to witness even more retirements, with 23 IAS officers set to leave the service, further reshaping Gujarat’s administrative landscape.
