The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has confirmed the appointment of senior IAS officer Khilli Ram Meena (1993-batch, AGMUT cadre) as the new Chief Secretary of Mizoram. He will take over from Ms. Renu Sharma (1988-batch IAS officer of AGMUT cadre), who retired on October 31st, 2024. In the interim, Mr. H Lalengmawia (2005-batch IAS officer of AGMUT cadre) has been handling the additional charge of the Chief Secretary position.
Officer Meena’s appointment comes shortly after his repatriation to the AGMUT cadre at the request of the Ministry of Home Affairs on November 16th, 2024. Before this, Mr. Meena had served as the Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Minority Affairs.
The Mizoram government had earlier recommended Mr. Vumlunmang Vualnam, a 1992-batch IAS officer from the Manipur cadre, for the position of Chief Secretary to succeed Ms. Sharma. However, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) declined the request. Vumlunmang is currently serving as the Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
