Maharashtra: Who is IAS Tukaram Mundhe, Who Got Transferred 19 Times in 16 Years

He was in charge of the National Health Mission in the state, where he had joined just two months ago, but now, he has been transferred yet again.

2005-batch IAS officer Tukaram Mundhe has been transferred once again by the Maharashtra government. But no posting has been given to him. He was given charge of the National Health Mission just two months ago after being transferred, but now, he has been transferred yet again. With this transfer, he has been transferred for the 19th time in the last 16 years.

He belongs to Tadsona village of Beed district of Maharashtra. He is known for his honesty and bravery in the bureaucratic circles as well as among the common people. Those who know him say that he has always stood against evil since childhood. Not only this, whenever he is transferred, he leaves his own mark in the place he leaves behind. Also, due to his unique style of working, he easily becomes the favorite of the public, whereas, for criminals, he is enemy number one. In his various postings, he has not only messed with many big mafias, but also received death threats because of his honesty and no-nonsense atttitude.

He had to struggle a lot in his life to become an IAS officer. He used to work in the fields with his father after coming back from school. After this, he used to go to the market to sell the vegetables grown in the fields. However, this work continued till 10th standard only. After his 10th, he went to his relative’s house in Aurangabad to study in a college there. After graduating in the year 1996, he went to Mumbai where he did his post graduation. After completing it, he started preparing for UPSC CSE. He did not get success in the first attempt, but, after some more hard work, he became an IAS officer. His first posting was in Solapur, Maharashtra.

He has worked in 19 different places in the last 16 years in Maharashtra. He was in Solapur during his first posting in August 2005 as a Trainee Sub-Collector. But due to his style of working, he was replaced after two years, in 2007. Ever since then, this became a routine affair. He has been Deputy District Magistrate, in Deglur subdivision, CEO of Nagpur Zilla Parishad, Commissioner of Tribal Department, CEO of Washim, CEO of Kalyan, District Magistrate of Jalna, Assistant Commissioner of Sales Tax in Mumbai.

In November 2014, he became the District Magistrate of Solapur. In May 2016, he became the Commissioner of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation. In March 2017, he became the Chief Executive Officer of PMPL, Pune. In February 2018, he was made commissioner in Nashik Municipal Corporation. In November 2018, he was made the co-secretary of the Planning department. He took the responsibility of Project Officer of Mumbai AIDS Control in December 2018. In January 2020, he became the commissioner of Nagpur Municipal Corporation. In August 2020, he took over as Member Secretary in Maharashtra Life Authority, Mumbai. He went to the National Human Rights Commission in January 2021. In September 2022, he joined as the Commissioner of Health Services and Director, National Health Campaign, and on 29 November 2022, he was transferred once again and the posting has not been decided yet.
