Puducherry: In a significant administrative reshuffle, the Puducherry government has announced new assignments for two newly joined IAS officers and issued fresh postings for several senior bureaucrats. The orders were issued by the office of the Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry.
New IAS Officers Get Key Roles in Yanam and Karaikal
Ankit Kumar IAS, who recently reported for duty in Puducherry, has been appointed as the Regional Administrator of Yanam. In addition to his primary role, he will also hold the additional charge of Commissioner, Yanam Municipality.
M. Pooja IAS, another new officer, has been posted as the Sub-Collector of Karaikal, a strategically important post in the Union Territory’s administrative setup.
These appointments reflect the government’s aim to strengthen governance at the regional level by deploying young officers in field roles.
Senior Bureaucrats Reposted in Key Departments
In a separate order, the administration reshuffled several existing officers:
Arjun Ramakrishnan, previously Deputy Collector (Revenue), Karaikal, has been transferred and appointed as Director, Adi Dravidar Welfare Department. He will also hold the additional charge of Managing Director, PADCO (Puducherry Adi Dravidar Development Corporation).
R. Mounissamy, who was earlier serving as Regional Administrator of Yanam, has now been posted as Director of Information and Publicity.
M.M. Vinayaraj, currently Deputy Collector, Puducherry District Authority, will now take over as Deputy Transport Commissioner.
These postings are part of routine administrative changes aimed at improving governance and service delivery in the Union Territory.
Strengthening Administrative Functioning Across Regions
The reshuffle is being seen as an attempt to streamline operations and bring dynamism into governance. Yanam and Karaikal—two of Puducherry’s geographically separate regions—often require dedicated officers for effective administration due to their unique demographic and developmental challenges.
By placing newly joined IAS officers in these divisions, the government appears to be placing trust in young leadership for regional development and efficient public service delivery.
