In a notable move, the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh is set to promote more than 115 IAS officers, marking a significant New Year’s gift. According to reports, officers from the 2000 batch will be promoted to Principal Secretaries, while those from the 2009 batch will be elevated to the rank of Secretary.
The promotion list also includes several District Magistrates (DMs), many of whom will be upgraded to the position of Secretary. Notably, around 40 officers from the 2009 batch will transition from Special Secretary and DM roles to Secretary and Commissioner positions.
Among them are five current DMs, including those from major districts such as Lucknow, Kanpur, Sitapur, Ghaziabad, and Varanasi, whose promotions are expected to bring about significant changes in the state’s administrative landscape. These changes will be visible within the next month. The last such large-scale promotion in Uttar Pradesh took place about two years ago, when IAS Kaushal Raj Sharma (2006 batch), the then District Magistrate of Varanasi, was promoted to Commissioner of Varanasi.
Other officers who are also expected to receive promotions soon include IAS Suryapal Gangwar (2009 batch), the current DM of Lucknow, IAS S Rajalingam (2009 batch), the DM of Varanasi, IAS Indra Vikram Singh (2010 batch), the DM of Ghaziabad, IAS Shailendra Kumar Singh (2015 batch), the DM of Mathura, and IAS Rakesh Kumar Singh, the DM of Kanpur.
