The extensions were notified by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Monday.
Juhi Mukherjee Gets Two-Year Extension as Joint Secretary in DEA
Juhi Mukherjee (IAS:2007:AGMUT), currently serving as Joint Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs (DEA) under the Ministry of Finance, has been granted a two-year extension on her central deputation.
As per the DoPT order dated September 29, 2025, her tenure will now continue beyond October 13, 2025, or until further orders, whichever is earlier. The extension was approved following a proposal from DEA.
Ms. Mukherjee has been with DEA since July 18, 2023, when she was promoted to Joint Secretary. Prior to this, she served as Deputy Secretary in the department from September 2020, gaining experience in various aspects of economic policy and public finance over the last five years.
M Beena’s Tenure as Development Commissioner (Handlooms) Extended Until 2026
The tenure of M Beena (IAS:1999:KL), presently posted as Development Commissioner (Handlooms) in the Ministry of Textiles, has also been extended for one year, until October 3, 2026, or until further orders.
According to the DoPT notification, the extension includes the continuation of the temporary upgradation of the post at the Joint Secretary level. Beena M was first appointed to this role on September 15, 2023, and her tenure was originally set to end on October 3, 2025.
Prior to this central posting, Beena served as the Chairperson of Cochin Port Authority for five years, during which she led several modernization and capacity enhancement initiatives. Her experience in infrastructure, trade, and logistics is seen as a valuable asset in promoting India’s handloom and textile sector.
Policy Continuity and Institutional Knowledge at the Helm
The extension of both officers underscores the government’s intent to ensure continuity in leadership across important departments, particularly in economic and developmental sectors. Their extended tenures are expected to support ongoing reforms and long-term strategic initiatives.
